We are excited to announce the launch of not one but two amazing new CBG Tinctures! Tinctures have always been a great way to add CBD into your wellness routine and these new CBG (Cannabigerol) formulations are adding new cannabinoids into the mix!
CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of over 100 compounds found in the cannabis L. sativa plant, commonly referred to as industrial hemp, legal under the United States Farm Bill of 2014 and Hemp Farming Act of 2018.
In addition to CBD and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compounds that are found in cannabis and marijuana, there are many minor cannabinoids that make up the complete spectrum of compounds. CBC, CBD-V, CBN and CBG are just a few of those cannabinoids being discovered and researched.
CBGA (Cannabigerolic Acid), while a minor cannabinoid, is in fact one of the three precursors to the primary cannabinoid lines found in cannabis, CBDA (Cannabidiolic Acid), THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid), and CBCA (Cannabichromenic Acid).
What is CBG?
Unique synthase enzymes exist within the cannabis plant that break down Cannabigerolic Acid (CBGA) and push it towards one of the three cannabinoid lines. When these acids are exposed to heat or ultraviolet light, a process known as decarboxylation, they become one of the two primary major cannabinoids we commonly know, THC and CBD. In many strains of cannabis, CBGA immediately converts into THCA or CBDA, meaning more THC means less CBD, more CBD means less THC and more of either is less CBG.
As the benefits of CBG are further discovered and research continues, breeders are working to cross-breed plants and plant genetics to increase the levels of CBG produced. One of the earliest to do this was Subcool of TGA Genetics (TGA Subcool / Subcool Seeds). Dave Bowman, affectionately known as Subcool, was a horticulturist and head breeder of TGA and a pioneer of the industry. Subcool and TGA (The Green Avengers) have created over 35+ unique cannabis strains designed for specific conditions to help those in need of medical assistance.
Scientific research has helped farmers to yield higher levels of CBG from growing cannabis plants by understanding the optimum harvest and extraction time, generally six weeks into an eight week flowering cycle.
Our newest products help add high levels of CBG alongside Full Spectrum CBD to maximize the benefits of this cannabinoid. These new CBG + CBD Tinctures allow for easy administration and dosing of Cannabigerol. Below we will discuss the potential benefits of CBD and how it can work alongside CBD to build the ultimate, holistic wellness regimen.
Benefits of CBG & Entourage Effect
Cannabigerol (CBG) is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis L. sativa plant and a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, just like CBD. Similar to CBD, CBG targets your Endocannabinoid System. It interacts with a wide variety of CB1 and CB2 receptors. Cannabis therapy has studied the diversity of cannabinoids when used in conjunction, a process known as Entourage Effect, where complimentary cannabinoids and compounds like terpenes and flavonoids, synergistically work together to maximize the benefits while helping balance your body to a great degree of accuracy.
As we have learned, the body’s internal ECS system (Endocannabinoid System) works to help provide balance and overall homeostasis. Research is still in its near infancy, but overall details about how cannabinoids work and their performance with the functions of the body do exist. CBG as a cannabinoid has been found to act on physiological problems and systems making the uses very promising.
There are many Endocannabinoid receptors found in the eye structure for example. CBG has been found to be particularly effective because of its natural ability to reduce intraocular pressure acting as a vasodilator with neuroprotective properties. Animal experiments have yielded positive results on decreasing inflammation and protecting neurons in nerve cell brain degeneration.
CBG has also been shown in studies to block the receptors responsible for facilitating rapid cancer cell growth. One study in mice showed that CBG helped to inhibit the growth of colorectal cancer cells, thus slowing the growth of colon cancer. CBG was shown to inhibit tumors in the study.
Other research has showcased the extremely powerful antibacterial properties of CBG, particularly against Staphylococcus Aureus, commonly known as MRSA or staph infection. For over 50 years, topical cannabis products have been effective in treating medical skin conditions but researchers at the time were not fully aware of the plant’s composition and compounds.
Additional research has shown other potentially powerful benefits of CBG. Cannabis researchers, scientists and patients throughout the world are excited about the initial data that has been gathered on CBG. Both alone, and alongside the naturally occurring spectrum of cannabinoids, CBG has a promising range of applications.
